Room 1112 is an interactive, autobiographical web narrative about the memories of my exchange. Named after the dorm room I stayed in, this website explores the potential of medium of the web for immersive storytelling by blending graphics, audio and interactivity.
Delving into the complexity of memory and its inherent unreliability, it is a looping narrative about a recurrent memory documented in the form of a 'handmade' website. Room 1112 challenges what a website can be beyond its practical uses and embraces the web's transient nature and non-linearity to convey memories in an engaging way.
Users begin by clicking the door, where they are randomly transported the room at different points in time. By exploring words and objects, they uncover fragmented episodes of the past, gradually piecing together the fragmented narrative by color scheme.
The narrative revolves around the central question:
"Why does the narrator keep returning to Room 1112?"
With each replay, users encounter one facet of my exchange experience. Depending on each user's unique experience of the site, affected by a combination of chance and choice, they draw their own conclusions on what makes this exchange memorable to me. The more rounds they play, the more layered and nuanced their understanding becomes.
Over time, users also come to realise that the past is not fixed. Details subtly change even when the same elements are revisited — casting memory as a dynamic, malleable space.
Various types of interactivity were coded aligning to the content of each episode, such that the exchange experience feels immersive to the user. If the user does not interact with the page, the webpage slowly fades away, resembling the transience of memory.

Additionally, a 72-page process book titled ‘The Making of Room 1112’ was created detailing the full development of the project. This book uses perfect binding on RJ Paper's 100gsm Maple White.
It condenses the research done for my thesis paper and demonstrates how they were applied to Room 1112. Beyond that, it offers a glimpse into the software used and explains how websites are created in simple terms, without delving too deep into the technicalities of coding.
This project was displayed at New Bahru for the ADM Show 2025,
and at Geneo, as part of Singapore Design Week 2025.
A huge shoutout to Print De Creation for 4 years of printing my student work,
Ored Production for the efficient printing and installation of vinyls,
and to everyone who has interacted with my work in some form or another :)
Above all, I am grateful to my supervisor and classmates in ADM for their weekly feedback,
as well as the people mentioned in this website for the memories they have given me.
